Even when Tiger's not at his best he still the Best By Darren Carter ARJ Sports Executive Editor
November 18, 2003
The average sports fan who occassionally watch golf, watch because Tiger Woods is playing. I play golf and I would rather watch Tiger Woods play on TV than be out playing myself. Tiger has brought interest to the game, and just because he didn't win any major tournaments this year and didn't win the money title doesn't mean anything.
He won on tour this year 5 times out of 18 starts, he finished second for the money title to Vijay Singh who had 27 starts on only edged Tiger out. He's the number 1 ranked player in the world. He had 12 top 10 finishes in 18 times out the gate.
The Tiger haters like to say, he didn't win any majors, he didn't win the money title, he doesn't deserve to be Player of the Year.
It's unfair, the bar has been set so high that anything less than 2 or 3 majors, 8 or 9 tour wins, and 9 million dollars in earnings in a season is not a good year. I say kill that noise because, the name of the game is winning and with 5 wins this year, even if it was a sub-par year by his standards, is more than anyone else on the tour this year.
