Roy Deserves Better Than This By Darren Carter ARJ Sports Executive Editor November 12, 2003
Everybody and their momma, who wasn't a Roy Jones Jr. fan, must have loved the unimpressive performance he gave on November 8th. This was a way to justify what they have said up to this point. He isn't that good, he hasn't fought anybody, I told ya he doesn't deserve to the best pound 4 pound. All this from Roy Jones Jr. haters. In 49 times out the gate, Jones has steam rolled every opponent he's faced including the lone controversial loss on his record to Montell Griffin who he was killing until he got disqualified for an inadvertent foul. Don't you think he deserves at least one night to be less than spectacular? Especially since Roy had everything to lose in this fight and nothing to gain. I can hear the haters now, if he had come in and K.O.ed Tarver in the first round, he was supposed to K.O. this bum, he wasn't that good, then here we go at square one again, he hasn't fought anybody, he really isn't that good. It's a no win situation. Roy deserves at least the benefit of the doubt on this one, I'll be the first to agree that he wasn't that impressive against Tarver, but in no way shape form or fashion would I say that Tarver won the fight. It was close, but I think Jones won the last 2 rounds of the fight which ultimately decided the outcome. Look at what Jones had to do to get ready for this fight, he had to lose 25 pounds to even make the weight. That should at least account for something. Jones had to be weak and drained, because he had to lose so much weight.
