Q.C. Is Not Doing Too Bad By Darren Carter ARJ Sports Executive Editor November 7, 2003
The early success that the Dallas Cowboys are having is probably partly because of Head Coach Bill Parcells. Parcells have a nack for having his teams well prepared. Some of the early success is due to the number 1 ranked defense in the NFL to this point. A year ago the defense wasn't to shabby, and have just continued to get better this year. No one in the wildest dreams would have said last year, that if Da Boys we're successful it would have been because of Quincy Carter. Everyone was saying that Chad Hutchinson was the heir apparent to Troy Aikman. Not only was Q.C. Parcells choice, as he would say, to drive the bus, but is one of the reasons Dallas has had early success. Last year experts, we're so quick to say that Carter would never amount to anyone close to an NFL quarterback. He has no accuracy, he can't make all the throws, he's not very smart, he can't read coverages, and he makes poor decisions. They we're quick to say all these things, even though Q.C. was still in his second year and playing in 2 different offensive schemes in as many years. Forget the fact that his record as a starting quarterback was better than Aikman's up to that point, and he was a Super Bowl MVP and destined for the Hall of Fame. Carter was only supposed to manage the game, and don't do anything to lose it. The defense this year has been superb, but Q.C. has been very stellar as well. Sometimes I don't think he get's enough credit, because all the people that down talked him would have to eat crow, if he turned out to be the Real Deal. The passing game has been solid, with the New Triplets, wide receivers Joey Galloway, Terry Glenn, and Antonio Bryant has kept opposing defenses' honest.
